Well made wrought iron and brass wafer iron. Cast brass decorative griddles. Nice curled wrought end with original catch. Excellent primitive example of a once popular country kitchen implement. Similar example pictured in Neumann’s, Early American Antique Country Furnishings (Plate 862, Page 196).
Wafer irons were similar to waffle irons. They used the same type of batter, but created a flat wafer that would have been dipped in honey or rolled into a cone (like a modern waffle cone) to hold preserves or other sweets.Â
Date: Second half of the 18th century.

Condition: Excellent. Typical wear to iron.
