Cool Victorian puzzle by Milton, Bradley & Co.  Nice original color lithographed label reads, “THE SMASHED UP LOCOMOTIVE/ A MECHANICAL PUZZLE FOR BOYS.” Interesting gender specific 19th century toy. Train puzzles were definitely for boys, not girls. The only resemblance to a smashed up train is that the train is in (puzzle) pieces. It’s a bit of a stretch, but as with modern toys, the toy doesn’t quite live up to the label.  Despite some missing pieces, it’s still a great looking box.

 

Date:  Last quarter of the 19th century.

 

Size:  Box measures 8 1/2″  x  6 1/2″  x  1 3/4″.

 

Condition: Box is missing a section in the front. Minor losses to label. Some missing pieces. As-is. Please use photos to determine condition.
