Outstanding folk art advertising piece made for the Kopper Kart in Los Angeles.  Signed on base, “CARVED BY J. MAKER 6-11-41 DES MOINES, IOWA.”   Carved from a single piece of pine. Original painted surface.

The Kopper Kart was a famous LA nightclub during the golden years of Hollywood during the 1920s-1940s. It’s patrons were a literal who’s who of Hollywood’s elite stars. Regulars included Errol Flynn, Carole Lombard, Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart just to name a few. The drunk man in top hat and tails hanging on an over sized leaning lamp post was the iconic logo of the club, and can be seen on ash trays, drinking glasses, money clips and a number of other items. This piece is a fantastic folk art symbol of the legendary establishment.
