Free blown aqua tumbler, referred to as a flip glass. Thick glass with striations and bubbles.Â
Large open pontil on base. Heavy body and base wear indicate years of heavy use. A great centuries-old example.Â
Tall tumblers, such as this, were used in the 18th century to mix “flip.” Flip consisted of liquor, spirits and sugar – heated by a toddy iron. Â A popular winter drink.Â
Date: Second half of the 18th century.
