Fun and amazing folk art chair in a bottle whimsy. Uprights on chair are signed, “AMOS. SChOPF” and “I.O.O.F. HOME 1929.” I.O.O.F stands for International Order of Odd Fellows. Wood chair with woven seat and back. Incredible construction required the chair to be assembled outside of the bottle. It was then carefully collapsed and somehow inserted into the bottle, where it was reconstructed using specialized tools. It was sealed in the bottle by means of a carved wooden plug that was secured by an inexplicably placed cross piece, and then finally topped off with an octagonal carved stopper. We can only guess at the incredible amount of time and patience that this whimsical gem required to design and complete. A wonderful example of American folk art.
