Nice German pewter wine can with screw on cap. Engraved on front, “1776 BE.” “BLOCK ZIN” touchmark on base. This mark was used in Germany to indicate the pewter was from the finest English tin, or its equivalent. It often appeared in conjunction with the angel stamp to signify quality. Flanking sea serpents form the handle. Heavy base wear indicates many years of use. A great example of 18th century pewter, with a choice date.
